Awakening Light
Reiki School
Attune to who you truly are
What is Reiki?
Activate your magic.
Reiki ︎⚭ Reiki is a Japanese word that translates to the sacred energy of life. Some have called this the Tao, others the Unified Field. As we tune into this vast field of interconnectedness, we become still enough to sense that we are one with the whole. Touching this inner mystery is transformational, deeply healing, and activates an awakening of consciousness. Usui Reiki as a system for natural healing is rooted in a Buddhist perspective, a pathway to the inner awakened one who lives in us all and heals with its very presence. This inner being offers unconditional love and kindness and sees clearly through compassionate eyes. Discovering this aspect of ourselves is the Reiki way - a life-long journey.
Our training days are designed as super healing mini-retreats.
Training ︎⚭ Our courses are community focused, designed to empower you with grounded wisdom and practical tools as you step through the gates of your most transformational healing. Brighitta holds space for her students to rediscover the magic of who they truly are using the alchemy of sitting in circle and connecting to nature as a foundation for the expansive attunements. Our training is as much about embodying the soul as it is about embracing our humanity with compassion. Reiki is both an elegant and accessible practice which makes use of meditation and mindfulness techniques - this energy is who we are in the deepest sense. It enables us to align with our essence, harmonising the mind/body with the effortless intelligence of the Universe. It feels both grounding and expansive.
We offer ongoing support to help you integrate the practice after the course. Brighitta has been teaching Reiki since 2016 and practicing since 2004. Her Reiki Courses are accredited by the Complementary Medical Association. You can read what our lovely students have had to say here.

Location
We’re based in the charming town of Lewes in East Sussex.
From Central London: 1 hour direct train from London Bridge or London Victoria. 40 minutes direct from East Croydon.
From Brighton: 15 minutes from Brighton station
From Gatwick Airport: 30 minutes direct train
Easy to reach yet cradled by the arms of Mama Nature, our sustainable venue (powered only by the sun and wind) is on the edge of the South Downs National Park. We’re just a four minute walk to the nearest station (Cooksbridge).
Many of our students commute down from London for the day but if you’d like to make a retreat out of it, reach out and we can send you some ideas! Some of our students have stayed in off-grid shepherd huts or cute B&Bs in and around Lewes. There are many beautiful walks in the surrounding landscape, and the spectacular Cuckmere Haven beach with its glowing Seven Sisters is close by too.
For those driving, there is plenty of free parking at the venue.
Community
At the heart of any lasting spiritual practice is the Sangha, a community of fellow practitioners. Our courses are created upon the foundation of a sacred circle of friends sharing the journey along with you. We believe that remembering connection is the medicine for every challenge humans currently face - connection to nature, to each other, and to our inherent sacredness. During the course you can expect to meet beautiful like-minded souls. The container of community is as healing as Reiki.
The Reiki 1 course includes a six month membership to our online community portal which offers:
Monthly listening circles
A growing meditation library to support your personal home practice
A community of practitioners to reach out to with anything that rises (or to swap sessions with)
Online learning to expand upon the in-person training
A weekly remote Reiki Share where everyone sends healing to the member of the week
Mindfulness walks in nature
Teachings relating to Reiki, meditation, ritual and healing
About Brighitta
Curiosity introduced me to Reiki back in 2004. This refreshingly simple practice gave me a new understanding of the world in a very natural yet magical way. Reiki is the essence of our True Self, the soul - the love that is always there. It soon opened up many unexpected doors while becoming a gateway to a deeper, more fulfilling connection to life.
The sweetest reward as a teacher is seeing that precious expression of pure child-like awe as someone feels the bigger picture and their place within it. This practice gives us a tangible method for touching our eternal nature. I know when I see that look of total wonderment on someone's face that they’ve understood that they are part of something grand and mysterious and that they have the power to tap into it at any time. What a true gift that is.
I founded the Awakening Light Reiki School in 2016 and have since had the joy of guiding hundreds of people towards healing, transformation, and attuning to who they truly are. My courses draw on twenty years of experience using this sacred, generative energy in all aspects of life and my absolute love for what it can do.
I’m certified as a Teacher of the Usui Reiki System in both the traditional Japanese lineage and the more commonly known Western lineage. I’m a Master/Teacher Member of the UK Reiki Federation as well as the Shibumi International Reiki Association and my courses are accredited by the Complementary Medical Association. My first book, The Reiki Way, was published in April 2021. In addition to Reiki, I’ve trained in Mindfulness, Crystal Sonic Therapy, and Intuitive Development.
Lineages
A Reiki lineage is an energetic family tree - the ancestry of our practice. All Reiki Practitioners can trace their roots back to Mikao Usui who founded the System of Reiki in the 1920s.
Brighitta trained as a teacher in both the Western and Japanese Usui Reiki traditions. Both have wonderful benefits to support the Reiki practice - where the Western lineage (transplanted from Japan to Hawaii in 1936 by Hayashi and Takata) focuses on healing as a complementary therapy, the Japanese lineage (which stayed in Japan until the late 1980s) focuses primarily on meditation and spiritual growth. The two together demonstrate the full scope of this beautiful system, each carrying rich information and possibility for our journeys of healing and awakening. Brighitta teaches both Eastern + Western schools of thought together on her courses, and students of Awakening Light are certified as practitioners of Usui Reiki Ryoho and Usui Shiki Ryoho.

Healing Nature.
We’ve partnered with two incredible charities who are dedicated to reforesting our beautiful planet. When you join us for your Reiki journey, trees will be planted to grow alongside your practice.
TreeSisters is a UK-registered social change and reforestation charity that places tropical forest restoration into everyone's hands. They fund ethical, community-led planting projects that empower women and support local and indigenous communities. They have so far funded over 27 million trees across multiple locations, including Brazil, The Democratic Republic of the Congo, Borneo, Kenya, Cameroon, West Papua, Nepal, Mozambique and Madagascar.
For every person that registers for our Reiki 1 or Reiki 2 course, two trees will be planted by TreeSisters.
The Future Forest Company’s mission is to plant enough trees to remove 1 million tonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere by 2030. They plant native, broadleaf trees on their protected UK sites to create thriving habitats for wildlife while also working to restore peatland and nurture biodiversity. They protect ancient woodlands, plant wildflower meadows and regenerate wetlands while supporting rural communities in the UK.
For every student that joins our Reiki 3 course, a native tree will be planted with the Future Forest Company.

We usually have 8 people on each course, though it can go up to a maximum of 12. The groups are always full of the most beautiful people. The community we create together forms a powerful healing container for the course and often sparks deep friendships straight away.

We have an online community that is included in the Reiki 1 course which includes a meditation library, monthly listening circles / mentoring, and ongoing teachings. In 2021 we relocated the courses south of London, towards the sea, to be held in the arms of Mother Nature. We are now one hour direct from London Bridge or London Victoria, 15 minutes from Brighton, or 30 minutes from Gatwick Airport. The nearest station is Cooksbridge which is only a four minute walk from our fully sustainable venue. There is ample free parking on site.
